I've always had the understanding that a white dress symbolized a virginal bride on her wedding day. But in the last 3 decades, I think we can all agree that the symbolic white wedding dress has been thrown out the window. Honestly, how many brides are virgins when they marry? One out of a hundred? In this day and age of casual dating and participating in casual intimacy, the days of the virgin bride are looooong gone, right along with the symbolic white wedding dress.
I have heard don't wear black to a wedding, don't wear red to a wedding, don't wear white, you'll take away from the bride. Chances are, no way will you come close even if you try.
Amy, I am shocked by your response to the first question. There wasnt even an answer on the question of etiquette and yes its tasteless for a guest to wear white to a wedding.
