Anyone with more knowledge of infectious diseases than I able to comment on transmission of illness in a warm moist environment like this?

It's gonna be hot...deal with it. After all, isn't it better than 30 below?

When is it 30 below? Never. This is not better than even 0º. I'm Minnesotan. Fall can not come soon enough.

16 schools without air conditioning? Want to tell me how much learning is going to go on in those schools today? And for the people that say "deal with it" why do we bother to turn on the heat in the middle of winter? The kids could just wear their winter apparel all day long according to your thinking. No, this is dangerous, and I dare you to go sit in an un-airconditioned classroom with thirty kids for just one hour; then try it for six hours. St. Ansgar, Iowa decided they had had enough yesterday, and their supt. probably took some heat (pardon the pun) for closing school early. I applaud him for that. I worked in the heat outside, all day yesterday, and will not do it again today. And finally, when will a MN politician get the guts to set/define the weather extreme parameters for school closings so superintendents DON'T have to make this decision and come under fire? I remember one time when I think it was Ventura closed schools because it was dangerously cold outside. If it hits 100 degrees, non-airconditioned schools should be closed and that is probably not soon enough. Or, we could mandate that all schools in the state have air conditioning. Too expensive you say? How many stadiums did we build in the last five years? We sure have a lot of hypocrites in this state.

@comment229 A/C is a quite modern invention. Humans have lived for much longer. Deal with it.

lopqwert52: If you put 30 animals in a confined area, as you are suggesting we do with these kids, you would be arrested for cruelty to animals. Apparently, you have zero common sense and are out to attack something you know very little to nothing about. Have you ever been in a classroom on a day like today with 30 kids just after lunch during the hottest time of the day? I would LOVE to hear your definition of education. Further, I will make you an offer that is right up your alley; turn off ALL the air conditioners in every store, office building and enclosure across the state on days over 85 degrees if it is so great, then let everybody get back to you to see how popular your idea is.
