I laugh. The Twins supposedly signed Joe (and taxpayers shelled out a fortune) so they could build new ballpark and a winning team. FAIL. Now they're hoping to make a deal with Boston (where he should have gone to begin with) and he might not even be with the twins for an All-Star game in the "House That Joe Built?!" I hope everyone see NOW that the owners just ripped off the Twin Cities taxpayers. SHAME.

Lotus, you are correct that little Jimmy pulled the wool over the idiots in St paul who didn't see that the Pohlads would keep all the additional revenue the free stadium brought them. However, if the team is become even marginally competitive, Mauer and Morneau and their contracts have to be gone. Little jimmy is NOT going to lower his profit margin, so payroll has to decrease in his eyes. and frankly, mauer is and was never worthg half of that contract.

The only reason he made the all star team is because they need to choose one player from each team and Willingham is an outfielder and all those slots were filled. Heard Mauer is on the trade waiver on the news. Don't see anything here.

If the Twins trade either Mauer or Morneau they would be making a huge mistake. They must have known what they were doing when they signed them to their respective deals. In spite of their lackluster performance on the field the Twins are still among the best draws in baseball and Mauer and Morneau are among the top performers on the team. I began following the Twins in the sixties and sad to say they don't have a good track record on how they have treated their marquee players. I remember at the end of Harmon Killebrew's career Calvin Griffith refused to bring him back and Harmon ended up signing with Kansas City. I was apalled by this insensitivity on the part of the Twins. I quit following them and would not really become a fan again until the 1987 season. It was also during this time that they would trade the likes of Jim Kaat, Bert Blyleven and Rod Carew. Two of them are in the Hall of Fame and Jim Kaat probably should be. It seemed as though the Twins were more interested in something other than putting a quality team on the field that fans could be proud of. I don't want that to happen again. Brad Radke, Kirby Puckett and Kent Hrbek seemed to break that mold but still over the last 20 years the Twins have at times been referred to as a minor league team for the rest of the American League. Sure they currently have the worst record in the League but with Mauer, Morneau, Willingham, Revere, Span, and possiblly Plouffe they have the nucleus of a really good team. You aren't going to win many games when you have the worst ERA in the league. The attendance at Target Field shows that fan support is still there and I think having the likes of Mauer and Morneau in the lineup has a lot to do with that.

I hope that Mauer won't be the default All-Star selection from the Twins in 2014. Meaning that I hope somebody (maybe Revere?) gets enough votes to become an All Star. By 2014, I'm not sure if Joe will even get enough votes on his own to represent the AL catchers - especially if he's DH/1B 40% of the time.
