"we're discovering the regular officials are better than we thought"....c'mon Mark, really? Just because these rookie officials are struggling after being thrown in the fire, this should not be an endorsement of the quality of the regular refs. The issue is these refs don't want the accountability of having an extra crew and a full time commitment. If I am competent, I don't worry about the league wanting this. These two things would improve officiating.

So 90% says it will be negative, 14% say it will be fine???? The Math just isn't adding up.

Other obvious factors: 1) players will support worker union, 2) players are anti-Commissioner/owners, and 3) smart players will want refs to know they have their backs.

Actually, regular officials are terrible. The have been terrible for a long time and only look better when people are pulled out of the stands to officiate. The NFL has insisted on using non-professional refs since, well forever. Many pro football games are won or lost because of incorrect calls. Why do you think they implemented video review? The reason for this situation is, you guessed it, money. They don't really want to pay these guys enough. And, even though they were paying them peanuts, they don't really want to give them any of the pie. Keep watching suckers.
