Hooray for MPS! They really got it right with this one. Besides all the pluses mentioned in the article, what this also does is pave the way for continued public transportation use into adulthood. Good move!

So, when the kid drops out (remind us again what the drop out rate is for MPS, please) do they have to reimburse taxpayers that funded this or hand in the pass? When the student reaches H.S. level let them find their own way to school.

When I went to High School, they switched to using public transit and it was a boon. It allowed me to stay late for various after-school activities without worrying about arranging a ride. It is good to see such programs being adopted here.

Wait, so the idea here is that high school students who "missed" their school bus will use these "free" passes to ride public bus to school, instead of just using them to skip and get a free ride to the MOA? More deliberately naive public policy to prop up a taxpayer subsidy.

this is a really great idea that will encourage the kids to use public transit when they are adults. Many people seem to think that public transportation is only for poor people, or that it is dirty and unsafe, none of which are true. If people would just give metro transit a try, many of them would see that it isn't this evil, horrible thing that they try to make it out to be.

I stayed late for practice. Got on bus at 5pm to go home and driver said no good? Can only use pass during normal school hrs. I told him about practice and he let me ride. I gave him a dirty look for rest of school yr. what a jerk
