Just as hockey fans are ready to get excited about the Wild for the first time in years, the specter of a work stoppage again looms over the NHL.

ARRey sez: Well put, Mister Reusse. Perhaps in retrospect Leipold will wish he donated all that money to Willard and Paul instead of Zack and Ryan.

You make some good points, but I wonder why you and other Trib writers continue to ignore the Lynx and pretend that they are not a pro sports team. Whine all you want about the Twins, Vikings, Wolves and Wild -- they induce great whining. But at least mention that there is one very successful pro team in Minnesota. It's the 21rst Century -- it's okay to talk about sports played by women.

NHL could solve it's own financial woes ... by either contacting the league to 20 teams or going to the European soccer concept with upper and lower division qualifying- making the bottom feeders earn/win their way into an 'upper division' or being 'relegated' to a lower division (AHL level play?) if the club doesn't win/earn it's way upward. Honestly! At least the bottom 1/3 of the league is no better than the AHL quality play anyway- with Wild being a prime example over most of it's existence. Fewer teams & and or a 'relegation' system would save NHL... along with a labor agreement.

Solid poster Mister Patrick, talent should not equal enthusiasm that the Wild will make the playoffs. Things have a way of working out in ways you might not have expected, a short season is what the Wild need, here are the reasons why... immature leadership will always benefit from a short season, Heatley will have more time to complete his law suit he just started so no off ice distractions happen, Seto can't use the excuse he did not have the time to train for the season, PMB can get extra time to rest his head, Modano is fair game because of a short season, young prospects have more time to prepare...... Yes it would be nice to see hockey start as it should but the fact is the Wild fans will be happiest with the results if its a short one....... Signed Mister Know it all

Anyone out there know if the NHLPA labor contract proposal accepts the league's logical, excellent conference/division realignment plan that was scheduled to go into effect this season but was pushed back to the 2013-14 season after the NHLPA refused to approve the plan? Don Fehr reportedly convinced players that the plan should be part of this year's collective bargaining negotiations.

When the players hired Fehr I knew there would be no hockey until Christmas (at the earliest). Fehr's "no concession" reputation caused the owners to make a low ball first offer at 43%. The NHLPA have every right to hire whoever they want to represent them, but the hiring of this guy might cost them a whole season (lets hope not)

Hey Sea shark your right, the alignment was pushed back and from what I hear will not be dealt with this go around which means we can look forward to one more year of 9:00 and 10:00 face offs in the west. What's more disaponting is the wait till xmas for the start...and after watchin the Vikes on Friday...Oh well

Fehr is Bettman's biggest nightmare for sure, and little Gary has a huge ego when it comes to this stuff. Not a good mix and Fehr is not afraid to ruin a sport for the fans, just like he did in 1994 when baseball was shut down.
