While not happy with the Republican controlled legislature, in this case, they are correct in their disgust with the actions of the Duluth Police in initially restricting info about Gauthier arrest.

Gauthier was arrested and released without charges since the young man was of the age of consent. I certainly don't condone Gauthier's actions and I'm quite happy that he has resigned! Meanwhile on the GOP side, we had an affair going on between 2 married people. The GOP leadership knew of this affair before the election and didn't release any information until many weeks after the election! (I wonder if they were worried that it might cost them some votes?) In addition the legislator involved continued receiving pay with no call to resign from the GOP. The disgust of the GOP is misplaced, they need to look in the mirror! Gauthier's incident which I agree is disgusting did not cost and will not cost the people of the state the many many thousands of dollars that the Koch/Brodkorb affair will cost us, the citizens of Minnesota, in legal fees.

Where were these same GOP when it took month for information about the foot tapping in the airport bathroom by US Senator Larry Craig? This is why I hate the political parties. ...such phonies

The openly gay Gauthier committed no crime but exhibited very bad judgement. Meanwhile a GOP party leader commits adultery, gets help with a GOP cover up, and continues to collect $1000s in pay from MN taxpayers. Both are sad. But at least Gauthier showed some honor by resigning. Will everyone involved in the GOP cover up do the same?

As further proof the Strib is in bed with the DFL, you need to critique this story. It is a story about how long the Duluth PD sat on this information before it became public. Jennifer Brooks evidently went to the ACME Journalistic Academy. Why would not an article about a delayed time line not include the dates such as when the act itself occurred, and when it was released to the public? How can the readers form an opinion when salient facts, even the most basic ones, are not included? How about a comparison of when the GOP guy was caught at the airport tapping his shoe? What a rag.

for all the saloon attorney's on this post, DPD was doing its job. I know all you cop haters out there need to dig as much as you can, but I have seen nothing that indicates a crime beyond a petty misdemeanor was committed. The 17 year old kid is a minor but above the age of consent. They can't release details of these incidents. Sorry but the GOP (as in "we're too good to pay our rent"), those guys, think that because they are minor politicians they can dictate to the PD what they should/should not do. Before you spout off, go read some criminal law, but I know it is easier to potshot over a beer...

I just love the gop'ers here who don't like comments about their own party...typical of all hypocrites on both sides of the aisle. Most of the posters here want to ignore state/federal criminal law when it applies to their own particular brand.

"The openly gay Gauthier committed no crime" --- Since when is having sex in a public space legal?

"This is why I hate the political parties. ...such phonies" ............ Ain't THAT the truth. No criminal charges were pressed because no law was broken. But of course that won't be enough for the Repubs to stop clamoring about it. It's all about whose ox is being gored. Just ask Amy Koch.

Who cares what party they are with......Koch showed bad judgement and lack of control as did gauthier. Koch for betraying her family and the public. Gauthier for taking advantage of a young boy in public.
