Once players retire, they can face depression while struggling to leave behind a game they've played all their lives.

Here is an idea; while you are in college getting a free education, how about the athletes actually take advantage of that? If you are one of the very few that go pro, almost always very briefly, you will need something to fall back on. I have no sympathy. I busted my behind for years working full time to get my degree and still had college loans to pay off. These poor athletes with their full paid tuition had it bad? Freaking joke.

I can relate to what all these players are saying, my son played college baseball and his career was cut short due to injury. He didn't get a scholarship and is still working on getting his degree. When your whole life has centered on being an athlete and all that comes with that, when it's over it's hard to cope with. Trust me, I've seen firsthand the effects of depression. For those that haven't, believe me, it's real.
