Harmon Killebrew, one of the greats.
I'm a little lost. Did they rename Pearl Park to something else or is Pearl Park somehow indicative of Harmon Killebrew? I'm looking for the connection. (not trying to criticize, I just think I'm missing it)
This is great! (I'm kinda jealous my old Minneapolis neighborhood field didn't get this honor but) this is great to have any field in Minnesota named after Harmon Killebrew.
Great Honor. But you couldn't find a picture of Killebrew at home, maybe 64 world series?
We need to watch this field very carefully. Will Mpls park board youth teams be able to use this field, or will this be reserved most of the time for Washburn High's baseball team (and other Mpls schools) as has happened in other park locations?
Raleighmama give me a break there all kids just different ages and most kids in this area I assume would attend Washburn High...Just saying.
It will be interesting to see who will be allowed to use it. It's no different from the Neiman fields being built at Fort Snelling in the early 2000's under the auspice that it would be for the "inner city kids". Nothing could be farther from the truth. Lack of transportation for those youth, and need for MPRB revenues resulted in limited use by playground recreational teams and increased use by private organizations in soccer and baseball, to say nothing of the adult softball and adult "kickball". Money rules.
