I read that M. Mantle, in his later years, would have a recurring nightmare where he'd be walking up to home plate at Yankee Stadium and just as he was about to bat. He'd wake up from the dream soaked in sweat.. Too much adoration isn't good for the soul... Being grounded is a good thing... Our mega sports industry seems to care only about the money...

Lucas, thanks for sharing your story! I was not aware of the extent of the problem of lingering pain and injuries after an NFL career.

Wow! I can't understand what would ever make anyone want to relive the hell of addiction, isolation, and worst of all -- severe depression! I love a lot of things, especially my family, and I can't think of ONE that would make me want to experience that.....again.

Amazing story, read like a Joel O'Steen sermon! While skipping church and contemplating suicide, God has him make one more call and saves his life.

Life has pain period. The excessive indulgence in sports is never unobvious but rather willingly ignored by most, especially when earning megabucs!

Excellent cautionary story to young athletes who aspire to the glamor of the major pro level of sports. It puts some potential realities into the dreams.

For those that never played the game, it is impossible to describe. The thrill is beyond belief. Leaving the game is akin to PTSD of combat veterans. And after having done it, you can't imagine life not having done it. I speak from experience. Sometimes life is not about just existing. Thanks for understanding.
