Criminals will commit crimes regardless of whether a landlord is willing to rent to them (or their friends and relatives) or not. If anything, it seems that Khan is being taken advantage of by his tenants rather than the other way around.

Khan has chosen to be in a low-end market and all the headaches that come with it. Seems he needs to decide whether he's up to the task. In the meantime, the City of Minneapolis seems to be endlessly tolerant of slumlords. They need to put up or shut up.

You're suppose to be running a business - not a charity. You shouldn't be renting to high risks if you haven't the where with all to monitor/police them. 50 properties is too many to manage in your spare time with another job. I sure hope I'm never your neighbor.

Mr. Kahn appears to have played your reporter very well - or the reporter is just naturally a very gullible person. My recommendation to him would be to sell all of his north Minneapolis property and purchase homes around his own home in Roseville. Then let him run those rentals the way he runs the ones in our neighborhood. I doubt that Roseville will give him as many chances as he has had in Minneapolis. I am all for people having safe, healthy places to live - Mr. Kahn does not have a reputation for providing that option.

In America, you have the right to own property and go into business. You don't have any particular right to be successful. You aren't allowed to not follow the rules, and just let any old thing happen on your property. Sorry, Mr. Khan. You're going to have to get your act together, or go out of business. Just like all the rest of us.

Mahmood Khan is a true con artist. How he duped a trained journalist is beyond me. Mr. Khan has bought up blighted properties in North Minneapolis with the intention to do the bare minimum to get them rented. You don't rack up over $100k in fines by following the rules. Khan uses tenants as human shields, claiming the city is kicking folks out when he simply refuses to take care of the properties he has purchased. These are SUBSTANDARD rentals, not fit for animals much less human beings. Khan owns a bunch of rentals and handles all the property management himself. And he still works for the airlines. Do you think those tenants' needs are met? He is a vulturing parasite on the North Minneapolis community and his big assertion is that North Minneapolis is not Edina....his words. That is who Mahmood Khan is.

Khan needs to stop preying upon North Mpls. If he can't afford to keep up the properties and properly manage the tenants, then he shouldn't own the properties. It's that simple.

If a thief steals your bike you are rightly upset. If a slumlord can decrease the value of everybody else's property on the block by thousands of dollars and even make you consider leaving the home you love, then certainly a crime has been committed.

Here is what Khan should do: Downsize his rental property business. Sell everything that is vacant, and the most troublesome properties. Take the resources that are now free and improve the other properties. Hire a good property manager. The market is so tight right now it is easy to find good tenants, even for tougher neighborhoods. A good tenant screen will look at the credit report and find and contact every landlord for every address listed on the credit report. Khan is enabling the criminals. If no one will give them a loan, no one will rent to them, no one will lend them a couch, they will be forced to change their behavior. I don't think Khan is a bad guy. He just needs to change his business model, before the city puts him out of business. I hope he is reading this and decides to make the change.
