Sid Hartman: Blair Walsh excels so far filling kicker shoes

And as important as his field goal accuracy is, the fact that Walsh has consistently put kickoffs into the end zone is also significant.

Walsh has shown that he may be an upgrade over Longwell in the kick-off department but kicking the ball into the end zone in a dome should be a minimum requirement for any NFL caliber kicker. I wouldn't crown him the rookie of the year yet Sid until Walsh is battle tested in the regular season.

Sorry Sid, but Vegas has a higher opinion of our local sports teams than I do.

Wait until he misses that 30 yard chip shot that would have won the game in the final seconds. Or goes 2 for 7 on field goal attempts to start the season.

I am tired of Jerry Kill always proclaiming that he is "completely rebuilding the UofM football program". Note to Coach Kill: the UofM is a 120 year charter member of the Big 10, and were playing football 12 years prior to that! Personally, I am offended by Coach Kill continuing insinuate he and his entire MID-AM Conference coaching staff were hired to perform lifesaving triage to this program. However, if Coach Kill is correct and the 130 year old UofM football program was laying lifeless on the ground, we should have done the humane thing and "killed" it before we wasted $288 million.

Have been posting for many years, that the Vikes need a kicker that can consistently kick the football in the end zone. Like it or not, Longwells, kickoffs that ended on the fifteen yard line, probably cost us the championship game and the SB, when we played NO, in the championship game, those kickoffs, bountygate, and paid off officiating, plus fumbling definitely cost us the game, or the Vikes would have won in a blowout.

That's kind of a stretch, bengraved, but whatever. The thing about Walsh though, is it looks like we have a chance of putting points on the board any time we get past midfield and the ensuing kickoff won't be a long return every dam time. Also, I like that number 3 jersey, it reminds me of Jan Stenerud. I hope Walsh is the steal of the draft.

We'll see how Walsh does when the regular season starts and he's attempting a GW Field Goal with no time left on the clock
