About time their is some enforcement. It needs to be respected by all. However, here are some things that happened to me: Once, I stopped for a young person to cross. He crossed in front of my care, then nearly got hit by a driver blasting around me on the left. This was scary, because the kid would not have tried to cross then if I had not stopped. Other times, I stop to let someone cross, but they wave me on. Probably afraid to become the victim of another driver blasting past or around me.

I'm often hesitant to stop at a crosswalk for fear the drivers behind me are not paying attention. One in particular on County Road 30 in Maple Grove is challenging as it's a 45mph zone.

Pedestrians should have the right of way on the sidewalks and cars the right of way on the streets. You may have one person crossing the street and that could hold up 10-20 cars. Only takes one car of 20 to cause an accident. The one pedestrian can wait or use the intersection. IMO it is a stupid rule to give the pedestrian the right of way in the middle of the street.

There's not a driver in this state that knows what a stop line is.

A crosswalk is the painted area between the curbs. If you decide to leave the sidewalk while a car in approching you are an idiot. The law is designed so you can safely cross the road, not so you can run through a crosswalk without having to use your brain. Below is right from the MN safty council - A pedestrian must not enter a crosswalk if a vehicle is approaching. There is no defined distance that a pedestrian must abide by before entering the crosswalk, BUT COMMON SENSE SHOULD PREVAIL. The law states: "No pedestrian shall suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle which is so close that it is impossible for the driver to yield." As I understand it there is no reason to stop for someone waiting to enter a crosswalk, you are to yeild to people in the crosswalk.

The crosswalks in Richfield on 77th street are also the bus stops. I stop and the person stands there looking at me. The person doesn't need to cross, he or she is waiting for a bus. If 30,000 cars a day have to stop where everyone is waiting for a bus along that stretch, that's very confusing. Maybe a button to activate a flashing light would solve the problem. Then people know someone needs to cross. 50th and France is a no-brainer. I stop even if there isn't someone waiting just in case someone is coming from a store.

It is about time there is some enforcement! I use a well marked crosswalk every morning & every evening. On the extremely rare occasion that a car actually stops for me, he/she gets honked at by the car behind him/her. Until this state outlaws cell phone use by drivers, this problem is not going away and more people will end up killed in crosswalks.

I was one of the Robbinsdale onlookers. It was ridiculous seeing how many people zoomed right by the undercover cop even though they'd just driven by 2 or more drivers getting citations. There were at least 8 police cars pulling people over and once we saw them all issuing tickets simultaneously. I had driven down part of the block earlier and it was obvious something was going on -- I turned off the road because I wasn't sure I could even get through. Later my kids and I biked back and watched from the park bleachers.

I'll believe police are serious about crosswalk and jaywalk enforcement when I see pedestrians stopped for infractions in downtown Mpls. As it stands now, downtown during the week, looks like Frogger, with pedestrians jumping in front of cars.

This article sure paints motorists out to be the bad guys. And it's understandable, there are a ton of bad drivers who endanger pedestrians. However, pedestrians aren't blameless in this. I can't tell you how many times I've seen peds pop out from behind a parked car and jaywalk across a busy street because they are too lazy to walk to the crosswalk at the intersection. Also, many peds seem to think they still have right away even if they have a don't walk sign. Both sides are to blame here.
