Since when are lakeshore property owners the ones moving their boats between lakes? Take a look at any lakeshore, those boat lifts have boats on them. Can we please stop bashing homeowners and bashing anglers and do something? The DNRs reliance on education isn't working --47% noncompliance and a 235% increase in number of lakes & rivers infested in MN just since 2009. The DNR failed to contain ZM & milfoil. Why have confidence in them when it comes to carp?

Please find, Attack of The Killer Carp 8/15/12 This Magazine, good article. Please note that only 2 "control" methods worked for 186 great lakes invasive species. Predators (alewives) Poison (lampreys) Both methods attack recruitment before they become a problem. We have native predators for both Asian Carp and zebra mussels. Watch your bait bucket and bilge is a prudent thing to do. But it does not reduce invasive species populations, predators do.

I'd be very surprised if Christmas lake isn't already infested with zebra mussels. The more forceful the inspections and lake use restrictions, the faster I'd expect your lake to be infested. It's so easy to transport and people don't take kindly to restrictions on the use of public waters.

Kudo's to DNR Commissioner Tom Landwehr for making some logical and reasonable statements rather then some of the irrational asertions made by some of the lake shore owners and or Associations. Trying to restrict access to public property is a bad idea and doesn't make much sense..I'm starting to think that this is more about paying certain people off to make them go away then anything else..how's the saying go "never let a good crisis..." or better yet,how how them Spotted Owls doing after the logging industry was shut down in the NW in the 90's? same same? just a thought.

Dennis, now go and interview some actual fisherman and recerationl boaters and see what they have to say. Also please write a follow up article about how the majority of boaters follow rules and are trying to prevent the spread of AIS, stand up for the fisherman and boaters and give them a say too.....

Thanks for adding some clarity and distinction as to "boater's rights" between lake access points and the lakes themselves. Interesting to note that while the DNR controls the lakes, they don't control all of the access points. The war is lost; inspections are either here now or coming to a popular lake's access point soon. You don't have to like it, but you do have to accept it if you want to launch your boat.

The war on the invasive lot owners is lost. Once the first lake shore properties were sold, it was only a matter of time before they took over. Too bad they don't have any natural preditors to limit their greed.

Invasives may be here, but that doesn't mean we've lost the war. Proactive measures can slow the spread and give us more time to find better control measures. Doing nothing is not an option.

I saw a turtle walking from one lake to another dragging weeds along with it. Are they inspecting turtles yet?
