Several new players have stood out in fall practice, with good competition at tailback and the defensive line.

Sid, the notes were sent but he didn't write anything. It was great to be able to be right on thE practice field

Sid says this every year about the Gophers but this time he may be right. Kill seems to be an outstanding coach in every way. Can't wait for the first game vs UNLV which will tell a lot. Should beat that poor team by at least 21 if we are going to be any good. Regardless they will be much improved from last yr and should win the 4 non-conf games and I would be happy with 2 conf wins and a bowl.

To be more in-depth, we have Gray who is passing and playing much better than a yr ago. plus he is up to 260 lbs, will be a beast running. we have two speedy freshman receivers plus two sophomore speedsters and a bigger complete wr in freshman mcdonald. much more depth and talent at RB, and the O-line is young but big and talented. that unit could be amazing in another yr or two. on defense hageman could be all big 10 if he finally puts it together and it looks like he will. we also have a soph DE who is fast and put on 25 lbs to get to 245 who could be a big plus. LBS are pretty good with depth. the safetys are fast but i'm not sure what else at this point. stoudemire and carter should be good cbs and the 3 juco corners we added are supposed to be for real. the key will be if gray can really show that he can pass more efficiently and have a reliable running game from the running backs, then our offense will be very tough. the defense overall should be decent but stopping the run and being able to genarate a conistent pass rush vs big 10 teams will be a challenge. kill is a great coach and they should be disciplined and smart which always goes a long way. this team could pleasantly surprise people!

He's been right before. That's what Sid said about the team Nagurski's freshman year. Look it up.

Good old Sid. No matter how many consecutive years he's been wrong, you can always count on him to say in August that the Gophers will be better than everyone else thinks, followed by an admission in September or early October that he overrated the team. Just once he should try writing that "this team is nowhere near as good as the experts think", and then watch them book tickets for Pasadena.

I like Sid, and have nothing against a homer, I'm one myself, and always hope for the best. I just don't write this BS for the paper.
