4 owners attended? That's it? Pretty clear which side is serious about a deal and which side can't be bothered to stop making money long enough to ensure there's a season.

Just get it done. And realign the divisions in 2013-14.

I just don't get it. With the economy struggling here, unemployed people, banks failing, etc. how can a group of people (NHL Players) ask for more money? In addition, these players make millions of dollars. Maybe this is why, I really don't get excited to watch any of this!!

Timandtia-did you even read the article? Directly from the article..."The NHL proposed the players receive 46 percent. Fehr said because of "our desire to make an agreement," the players are willing to take a reduction that likely would equal $465 million over the next three years if the league continues to grow at an average rate ($800 million if it grows at the rate of the past two years).".

timandtia-The work that they do (no matter how trivial it may be) pays them a salary and they have a right to attempt to increase their salary. Very similar to the way that I, as a Compliance Officer, seek to increase my salary or my daycare provider seeks to increase her annual income for the services she provides. It doesn't matter what their salaray is; that is what the market has dictated, rightly or wrongly. I doubt you, or anyone else would take a reduced salary in the name of altruism.

bjorn, you're really concerned about only 4 owners showing up to be handed a proposal? I don't go out and meet with my mailman either. I just pick it up after he drops it off. Doesn't mean I'm not interested, I just have other things to do.

I just hope the alignment plan is still on.

Sadly, I don't think this deal has much of a chance, either. Life in the NHL is such that the big-market owners wield a tremendous amount of power over the less-wealthy teams. Hence, I don't foresee the wealthiest owners accepting a deal that requires them to give more away in revenue sharing, when their own proposal would let them keep all the money they do now and get more from the players. It's disappointing, really.
