"these numbers are only to be used for entertainment purposes" - - - yeah... not much entertainment I might add. The part where I lost any hope or regards for Nishi is the dropped pop... where it drops in front of him, he turns around the other way and quits. That was inexcusable and pathetic. PATHETIC.

This is hardly illuminating. Why doesn't the Strib expend its time reporting who the scouts were who OKed this disaster and asking them what they saw in a AA player to make them urge the owners to spend any amount of money on him?

The Twins went 2-1 against Cleveland IN SPITE of Nishioka being in the line up. They probably would have gone 3-0 if not for the 4 runs Nishioka helped Cleveland score in game 3. Pitching cost the Twins against Tampa Bay in the sweep. That's something that has been an issue all season long. Scott Diamond and Samuel Deduno can't win it all by themselves.

Love the concept, Mr. Rand. Your columns are always the highlight of the Strib sports page. Allow me to add a few numbers, using some of those new-fangled sabermetric stats. According to Fangraphs, Nishioka had a WAR of -0.4 in those three games, which projects to -21.648. over a full season! So he would single-handedly cost the team about 16 games compared to an average AAA player. Also, his Ultimate Zone rating was -1.7. Projected to 162 games, he would cost the team almost 92 runs with his glove alone!

Minnesota nice sugar coating to a minor league prospect that flopped. He would have been eaten alive in a Boston or New York market. No matter what the taste, the Twins will never admit the bitter taste of defeat.
