Great Britain is without much doubt the greatest civilization produced by man. Think about GB's contributions to civilization. Isaac Newton, physics, the law of motion, calculus. Robert Hooke discovered living matter is made up of cells. Robert Boyle is known as the first modern chemist. John Locke provided the philosophical underpinnings of the American idea-- that the purpose of government is to protect property and ensure that the individual is able to exercise his God given liberty and realize his goals. Watt and the steam engine. Tull and the seed drill. Adam Smith formulating the theory of capitalism. Modern industrial production. The Magna Carta and the Glorius Revolution, which established the primacy of Parliament over the king. Churchill. And of course The Beatles, Stones, Who, Clapton, Et. al. God save the Queen.

Woops--Forgot Shakespeare, Dickens, Michael Faraday (electricity), Darwin (evolution) , Bell ( telephone), and Francis Crick, co- discoverer of the structure of DNA.

The times I was in London were "smashing". Great people even when I ran into them in Palma de Mallorca. Very generous and they love us in spite of the Revolutionary War. They really like Americans. Can't same the same for the rest of Europe.

I lived there for five years. It was great, but give me Minnesota every day of the week. USA! USA! USA! USA!

I know this is meant to be a lighter feature and generally positive, but journalists should report what is really there rather than easy stereotypes. Cracks about bad English food might have worked 30 years ago, but now they are nothing more than outdated clichés. We’ve just returned from a trip to Britain, one of many over the past years, and we always find lots of great food to eat. Awareness of fresh ingredients and local sourcing is far more advanced than it is here. You can find a rich variety of cuisines all over Britain, particularly in London. But the most egregious falsehood in the column was not about Britain at all. The throwaway jab that suggests that Britain is like Canada “only with history and people of color” is not only not funny, it is absurdly misinformed. Mr. Souhan covers sports. Has he never been to Toronto? Vancouver? Winnipeg? Canada is proudly and famously multi-ethnic and multicultural, and any visitor who was paying attention could not fail to be aware of that. So please help broaden your readers’ ideas of the world rather than trading in worn out truisms.
