That's twice today that I've read that Britain came in third in total medal count. They did not. Russia came in third, Britain fourth.

True enough, smithmn - Great Britain was third in gold medals, with 29, but fourth in overall medals behind the U.S., China, and Russia.

Official medal counting now weights gold medals more heavily than total count. So, GB 3rd. But 3rd, 4th, not bad for a country with a population 1/5 that of the USA and an area the size of Michigan! Wonder if anybody's thought of doing a per capital total!
