If you're a chrome or firefox user. get AdBlockPlus. Free and awesome. As for cloud services, for privacy sake, assume all data in the cloud is public. Of course a user may package sensitive data into an encrypted package, such as a .zip or .rar

Uh, no. Neither .zip or .rar can encrypt anything. What you should do is use PGP or GnuPG for strong, unbreakable (for thousands of years) encryption. If you're encrypting multiple files, just select them all and Encrypt, and they're all in one secure file; no need for any .zip or .rar nonsense.
