The joyful Vikings receiver said he learned a hard lesson he won't forget after serving a 15-day sentence in a detention center for a felony drug charge.

The bengals out right let Simpson go because they knew he was not a legitimate starting WR on their mediocre club. He also had problems running routes correctly and learning the playbook. Simpson is another "bargain basement" pick-up by the vikings designed to save a few bucks instead of going after real free-agent talent that can make an impact immediately.

About four or five years ago I remember reading a similiar story about a free agent defensive end who had alcohol issues. He was supposedly on his last strike. So to speak. I'm not puting Simpson in J.A's category but it sounds as if he's got his head on straight and is truly sorry for what he did. By the end of the season I think most Viking fans will be happy we have Simpson and not a certain injury prone Seahawk!

The problem with this kind of story is that the vast majority of America don't commit felonies and have to do time to "learn their lesson". The average citizen simply doesn't need to learn his lesson, he doesn't do it because he knows it's illegal & morally wrong. Why are there so many of these stories (insert whatever crime you like but drugs & alcohol related seem to be the most common) in the NFL?...

@ndterminator - You think a lot of people do make stupid mistakes with drugs or alcohol and "learn their lesson"? I think you don't ready about it because they aren't paid millions of dollars for professional clubs, but I assure you there are a lot of people making stupid mistakes. My job deals with them. Plus, many don't have the money to have 2.5lbs of weed delivered to them or they would make the same stupid mistake. It happens.

I don't see what all the hype is about. Simpson isn't going to make any difference. Maybe if the team had a decent QB he could contribute in a small way but the Vikings have Ponder. People are heralding Simpson mostly because it means no more Berrian(thank god for that). Still it's not a reason to act like the guy is talented enough to be a #1 WR.

I'd settle for Cris Carter, Version 2.0. That's all, no pressure Jerome.
