Chart: Equal footing for women

In 1900, just 2.1 percent of events at the Summer Olympics were women's events (2 of 95). By 1972, the year Title IX became law, 22.1 percent of events were women's events. But that number has jumped even more dramatically in the past 40 years since the law's passage, and now the number of men's and women's events is nearly equal. Here is a look at the progression since 1972:
