Amid the annual expression of summer optimism, the football team ought to realistically believe a bowl game is a reachable goal.

W's W's W's, show me some W's and than I will be happy. A six win season to me is good. But I would argue that we should be aiming higher, as high as we possibly can. A team with chemistry that can get on a roll in ANY program is dangerous. Let's hope our young men in this program can show us some pride and play to their full potential....Maybe above.....

If you are a Gopher football fan you have heard the optimism of the upcoming season every August. Winning meaningful games and truly being competitive is what fans want to see. Years and years of opening day positivity is great, but it has a feel of being cliche. I love the Minnesota Gopher football program, but actions speak louder then words, and always will.

The reason people in Gopherland having a lot of apathy over the Gopher football program is as easy as looking at the records. since the last Rose Bowl game after the 1961 season there have been very few good seasons. 11 times they have won 6 games or more, and only 4 of 8 wins or more. 29 seasons have resulted in less than 6 wins. Despite 7 or 8 coaching changes nothing has changed. In this time only Glen Mason had a winning recored for his career (64-57) In this same time they have never finished higher than 3rd in the Big 10 and only 2 times been in the final AP poll 20th or higher. Why would anyone thing things will be different now?

As a 50 year + Gopher football fan, I appreciate the controlled optimism. This comes from the top. True enough, right now nobody is expecting a trip to Pasadena or any other major bowl- nor should they. The fact that previous coaches put that 'Big Bowl Game cart before the horse' was reflected in totally unreachable expectations, fan dissatisfaction, fired coaches and no wins. But winning the games the SHOULD win along with competitive football games, worth watching deep into the 4th quarter I think would be totally welcomed for THIS season. You have crawl before walking; walk before running etc. Whereas previous Gopher teams 'crawled aimlessly'- Kill's Gophers are being TAUGHT how to crawl. They will get to their feet and will be TAUGHT to walk in another season and in 2-3 years will be running with 'bigger dogs' (maybe not SEC)and should be a hot ticket in this town. I like the pace and demeanor with which the Gopher Football club is being lead. Go coach Kill... GO GOPHERS!

I was pleased when Coach Kill was hired as he has shown the ability to improve struggling programs. He is doing it the right way and needs time. The Admin. is behind him and seems to be willing to provide the necessary resources to be successful which is something that has been lacking. Tis the season for optimism. I look for an improved squad and hope for a bowl. 2013 should be better.

Minnesota hats off to you!

With 4 cupcakes right out of the chute, of course they should believe they can waste a million dollars of the conference's money to subsidize their appearence in a 4th tier "bowl game" that won't even be on TV!

The Gophers are ranked poorly again in the preseason polls. Maybe that is just everyone's expectations. The best college team in Minnesota-Dakotas right now is in Fargo. If Minnesota can not handle the Dakota Schools handsomely...its more of the same. The Gophers have no excuses for even winning only six games other than administration. NDSU brought a championship to Fargo in record time, why not the Gophers?

Even that loser brewster took the Big 10's welfare case to back to back meaningless post season debacles....big deal! Mason was fired for simply, "getting to a bowl game!"

To the naysayers- it's gonna' take time. What would you rather have- 50 years of covered up scandal, or 50 years of losing football but nothing to hide. Kill is the man for the job. Naysayers- take your shots now. There will be no room for you whaen you are trying to jump aboard the bandwagon in 2 years.
