"blamed his bad choices on "the cult of overachievement." I agree." ----- how bout blaming it on his lack of personal and professional integrity? Stop making excuses for those who make bad decisions knowing full well what they are doing.

I agree with holeinmysock. Integrity is what keeps the rest of us from lying to get what we don't deserve.

Got it, it's the competitive culture that's at fault. Not the writer that wrote a piece of fiction, yet labeled it fact. The writer blames Ayd Rand and not the person that actually cheated and made up quotes out of whole cloth? What a stretch.

I think he's a victim of the culture of personal accountability-denial. Poor guy, he never had a chance.

What a stretch.] *** I found that line quite a stretch as well, Ayn Rand advocated for people taking responsibility for their own actions; while this writer seems to blame society rather than the individual who actually did something inappropriate. Maybe we need a bit more individualism where people can take the blame for their own actions rather than trying to blame everyone but themselves.

Ms. Blodgett's assessment is a corollary to Mr. Obama's phrase "you didn't build that". The collectivist mentality cannot accept that some merit their material wealth and likewise individuals cannot be held responsible for their misbehavior. Jonah Lehrer is a fraud. No one but Jonah Lehrer is responsible for that fact.
