Congrats to Doleman and all his accomplishments, I wish him all the best!!! Too bad he, along with all the other viking players (past, present and future) who started and ended their carrers with the purple have no World Championship ring to show for their efforts.

And before any of the contrarian's out there say that he didn't bother defending the run, let me point out that he also averaged more tackles per season (and per game) than Bruce Smith or Richard Dent.

I remember watching the NFL draft and how Paul Zimmerman told the world that this was a horrible draft pick for the Vikings. Boy, was he wrong!

Denny Green and Mike Lynn didn't need him, especially during those mid 90's playoff performances. How would have those 15 sacks at age 37 looked on the '98 team?

One of my 2 favorite players of all time. Only weakness, and it's a weakness the very best (with the rare exception of Reggie White) had - the bull rush. Locked up against a big, physical offensive lineman, it was over for Doleman, but this is not a criticism: The DE in the 4-3 is typically built for speed (tall, a bit lanky) and the edge was his game. The 49ers had the most success against Doleman - I watched every game he played. Against the run, he was actually very good - especially from the back side in chase down mode.

One thing forgotten about the 1985 draft: the Vikings had traded up to get the first pick in that draft so they could take Bernie Kosar. The NFL wanted the Browns to be able to draft him, so they created a special supplimental draft that Kosar entered. The Vikings went back to the 4th pick in that draft and took Doleman. Kosar was a decent QB who I think ended up in prison, Doleman's going to the HOF.

I'm a lifelong Bears fan and hated it when the Bears had to play the Vikings when Doleman was playing. He always seemed to be the one to make a big play and stop any momentum from being built. Now that he's retired, I can say that I am glad to see that he is finally getting recognition for his outstanding play over the course of his career. I think he should have been inducted years ago. Congratulations to Mr. Doleman and all his accomplishments.

With all due respect to Doleman's FANTASTIC Hall of Fame career… Cris Carter's HOF snubbing is ridiculous.

Doleman was a beast. I hope they bring back those mid-to late 90s uniforms again. The current ones we got are hideous, like someone from France designed them.
