I feel so badly for Catholics. They have become so hateful. As a Christian I am a follower of God. However, I know that I am not God thereby claiming privilege to judge others. Judging is God's job. It is not the job of Catholics, Lutherans, Muslims, Buddhists, etc. to judge. Although I am very disappointed in Catholics for being so pompous as to place themselves as equals to God I do not hate them. I will continue to pray for Catholics as they struggle with their faith.

I have no issue with allowing Mr. Ritchie to speak under the condition that he listens to the other side and doesn't take on the bully demeanor that he is known for. The Catholics and all others that plan on voting yes for the defense of marriage act this fall should not give in to bullying. This has absolutely nothing to do with civil rights or 'hatred'. It has to do with with taking a stand in defense of marriage as defined by the bible and by society. Do a google search for Tim Dolans views on same sex marriage. He gives a very eloquent and direct explanation of the Catholic and religous viewpoint.

Liberals and the liberal media have made that up. I am Catholic and we do not judge others. Just because we live the way Jesus taught us to live and that we are fighting to keep a little morality in this out of control society does not make us bad and does not mean we hate. We do not put ourselves as equals to God. That about the most asinine thing you wrote. And I appreciate your prayers but those of us Catholics that know our Faith do not struggle with it. Please pray as I do for those Catholics who fall for all the media criticism and the societal pressures that we all get bombarded with every minute of every day. Most of us Catholics are fine with our Faith but we pray every day that God help us especially now that the Obama Administration is on a mission to secularize Catholic institutions. Its time for St. Joan of Arc to be shut down!

I am Catholic, but what I am going to say should not matter that I am. Just vote, do it either way but vote. Present it as our legislative branch presented it. We all know all of this is political from Mr. Ritchie. Rithch

elo_62 you did judge us Catholics. I guess you know me/us? I am certainly not hateful. Most of the people in my Parish are pretty solid people. I bet the people in your church are just as solid. Maybe you should think about those kind of statements. I wish you well, and hope that you really do not feel we are hateful. I guess you can be disappointed. Like I stated go vote, I hope it passes and you may not. That is what makes where we live so special, and it should stay that way for all of us...no matter what we believe. I mess up all the time, so please don't take me for judging you. I have no right to judge you people that are gay etc. I disagree with you that we are hateful, that is a pretty rough comment. About as smart is Mr. Romney was this week too.

First of all, I don't believe the Secretary of State for Minnesota was going to speak on the issue of gay marriage. Secondly, the Catholic church has always maintained that they are the one and only true church. I am Lutheran, but I don't believe that Lutheran is the one and only true church. Third, it is fine with me that the Catholic hierarchy decrees certain things. Where I get off is the hierarchy trying to control all the rest of us. Fourth, the issue is not just gay marriage. Equal rights laws are also opposed by the Catholic church, when it comes to gays. Fifth, the Catholic church fights for laws against contraception use for everyone in this country. Sixth, where does everyone think that anti-jewish bigotry came from? Ask any Jew, and they will tell you. Seventh, look in the Catholic encyclopedia, and you will see a long defense of the Inquisition. My point is, that the Catholic church is trying to tell everyone in this country how to act, and trying to pass laws that reflect this. Case made that there is a very big problem in this country emanating from the Catholic hierarchy.

Once again the Catholic hierarchy claims to play the role of God by judging others and ignoring the role of free will -- a judgment is reserved only for God. (Please pay attention Archbishop.) The Church increasingly plays enabler for the haters as you can see from the comments of Church supporters here.

never ceases to amaze me about the fighting over who's version of the fairy tale is the real one.

Discrimination is not a Minnesota value and should not be in our state constitution, even if one personally disagrees with gay marriage. Live and let live.

Because someone has a strong belief in what he honestly feels is right or wrong does not make him a hater.
