Murray's was our "I got a new job or a promotion" restaurant. Never had anything but a great meal there! Pro servers and great drinks, too!

I also remember my Dad bringing us to Jax when I was in late grade school and being fascinated by the fish tank. Food was great there, too. A couple of Minnesota classics! Classy people too.

Both of these places were on out "celebration list". When something was special, like mom's birthday, we made a reservation at Murrays or Jax. Lets hope both of these establishments last for future generations.

I remember the bus rides to the Gopher football games after a delicious lunch at Jax. And we celebrated my son's doctorate degree at Murray's. We had to go to the BEST place in town to celebrate that memorable event!!

What a wonderful article! It brought tears to my eyes as I remember my grandmother and mom going there for their special dinners. I am going to bring my children and grandchildren sometime soon. I hope places like these, where life is special and simpler, remain vibrant in years to come.

"But more importantly, they've provided a place where life has stayed somewhat the same." This is not true. Murray's was a Union shop and Pat Murray busted the Union. His employees suffered because of it.

Two of the greatest restauranteurs of the twin cities. But you gotta love Phil Roberts quote: "They influenced the restaurant scene and anyone who didn't look up to them is an idiot," If there were a restauranteurs hall of fame Murray, Kozlack and Roberts would be in it.

No owner busts a union. People still have the right to vote for or against a union. Most good to great servers prefer independence.
