Reusse: Calm-looking Frankie gives Sox a reason for optimism

  • Article by: PATRICK REUSSE , Star Tribune

Making his first start against his old team, the lefthander didn't get the victory but he did bring back memories of his old, dominant self.

blackburn pitched surprisingly well, and liriano looked better already. my guess is that liriano will mature and improve as a pitcher with the help of the white sox coaching staff....

Does anyone else feel like its an ex going on a date with someone new and we're not sure if we're supposed to be happy or not?

LOL, guy was one hit away from total failure. Calm yes, same old yes.

This game meant nothing with regards to evaluating the Frankie trade. As khronikos notes... one tiny pitch away from getting blasted. The Twins had plenty of time to give Liriano every chance in the world. It didn't work out. Good riddance. If he works out somewhere else, oh well... stuff happens.

Went to the game tonight. Both starters pitched Well. I didn't see it quite the same way as Mr Reusse though as the Twins hit some at-em balls and Frankie got some good defense. I didn't see him as over powering. In the end as always with Liriano, it remains to be seen if he can pitch well consistently

More strike outs then innings pitched and two poor fielding plays , led to Twins runs and you didn't think he pitched that well. Yeah right, this Twins pitching staff can afford a two run performer. You got it dead on Patrick. People always say, what have you done for us lately, as an indicator. Too bad Terry, didn't consider it. By the way where were our trade guys.......anyone, anyone..Ferris ?

how many did the White Sox LOB?

Liriano did well as would be expected since he is on a bit of a roll the last month. Good for him. Now, next subject please. Like how are the Twins going to get a GOOD starting pitcher for THIS team?

minfan2Aug. 1, 12 9:52 AM

..the Twins did well..,Frisco, Jessie and AJ..

Where is the analysis about Blackburn? Is it because this is just one game, and nobody expects the same performance next time? Just like Liriano. Or, where is the critique that Liriano came away with a no decision, not a win, and that he couldn't hold a lead...once again? Let's face it, both pitchers did well last night. But how many here are going to place their hard earned cash on the line that either one will get through 3 innings in their next outing? If I have to place a bet, I'm betting Liriano loses more games than he wins for the White Sox.
