Actually the Republicans took control of the Senate for the first time since party designation in 1975, not the first time in modern history. Prior to that, the Conservative (i.e. Republican) caucus was in control of since the non-partisan ballot was initiated in the early part of the last century.

Looks like the wealthy and Corporate Mn decided their money is better spent elsewhere such as individual elections.
