A truly tragic story. One can admire dedication and commitment but is very sad seeing someone be so dedicated to a false premise or philosophy. No hate here - and no self-righteousness - genuinely. Everyone cannot be right. Shouldn't've brought it up I guess.

This story can't even be put in the same sentence as Pat Tillman. One gave up a career in the NFL to enlist in the elite Rangers and deployed to a war zone. The other is packing up a minivan and going on a glorified road trip. Oh the sacrifice that Abdullah has made. So the guy gave up an average to below average NFL career, big deal move on.

Husain Abdullah is a true American hero. He is not worshipping money and wants to help fellow humans who are poor and needy. What a wonderful role model for the kids of today! Go Abdullah brothers! We salute you for your humility, compassion, and care.

I guess it's to be expected in today's America: complete ignorance and hate rules the day on the comment boards. Mr. Abdullah, forgive them for they know not what they do. And I'm sure he would do just that.

No it is not the ultimate sacrifice like Pat Tillman's, but I do like this story. Riches for faith. Unfortunately, he and his cohorts will be hounded by Michelle McCarthy-Bachmann,et al, for being a member of the Brotherhood.

To the two commentor's above, this is a feel good story. To think otherwise is absolutely shocking to me.

When Abdullah starts traveling the U.S. preaching against the hatred coming from Islam I will be impressed. Until then, this is nothing more than another Islam-promotion piece written by a guy who has no clue about what is really going on.

I also meant to ask how many of these stupid Islam-promotion pieces do we have to suffer through? I don't know about others, but I am sick of reading this garbage.

Scottner your bigotry is showing (not that you care, obviously). Are there Muslims who are hateful? Of course, but the majority of Muslims--just like the majority of all people--are basically good people, as is clearly the case with the Abdullah brothers. And guess what? There are also many Christians who are hateful. And Jews, and Hindus, and atheists, etc. etc--no belief system has a monopoly on hatred or goodness, as any vaguely intelligent adult should realize. I'm not religious in any way and thus have no interest in promoting Islam or any other faith, but I'll take the Abdullah brothers with their obvious decency over someone like you any day of the week. Honestly I don't think your kind of bigotry should even be tolerated in the comments section.

@bigtimepeace Show me where Jesus preached violence or intolerance towards those who are different? Did he ever urge his followers to "slay the unbelievers?" No - he didn't. But did Mohammed? Yes - he did, and thus we have thousands of murders going on over all over the world in the name of Islam. Show me where there are Christians all over the world murdering in the name of Jesus, or Buddha. What I am saying is this - Whitewashing this theo-political system called Islam with some feel-good story doesn't eliminate what is a very serious problem in our world today, namely murder, forced conversion and conquest in the name of Islam. I'm sure this topic makes people uncomfortable and might hurt some feelings (and I apologize for that) but to just ignore it will very likely cause it to fester and escalate. You say that all Muslims are not terrorists, to which I agree. But you can't ignore the fact that over 90% of terrorist attacks in the world today are motivated by Islam.
