You go, Winfield! Age is just a concept. You are a role model, keep it up!

Winfield was an all pro four yeas ago, the last three years he has been a liability. He can stay with his "style" all he wants but the bottom line is that he has lost a step and WRs all around the league have no problem blowing by him enroute to the end zone. Is it any wonder the vikings gave up the most TDs (34) through the air last season.

@vikesjnx Uh, Winfield only played five games last year due to injury. His absence (as well as Chris Cook's) was the reason why our secondary was so poor.

@vikesblitz - When the realities of a 3-13 caliber team smacks you in the face try and justify the futility with old "injuries" excuse. You are beginning to sound like Spielman. Winfield has lost a step and has been getting burned by opposing reciever more and more with each passing year. Given his play recently the fact that he was hurt last season was clearly a plus for the viking's defense.

Yes, he is old and has lost a step. However, with him just being on the field will make opposing teams adjust the offense. Maybe the Vikings will use him most of the time, and then give him a "rest" during some of the plays. I hope that he can play the last two years of his contract. Great article!

@vikesjnx Granted, Winfield has aged and may have lost a step, but to say his absence was a benefit to the defense? Are you implying that Benny Sapp and Asher Allen are better than he is? Now that's a stretch. Winfield may not be as good as he used to be, but he is still the only proven corner we have.

I like Winfield, he is the best cb, we have had on the team for the last fifteen or so years. Winfield admitted, he has lot a step, but he may still make a good nickel back. If he is not effective in that role, it might be time, to hang up his cleats, and the fans should thank him for the many years, he has been a very good cb. for the Vikes.

He creates fumbles, he is a solid tackler, he is very good . enough said we missed him a lot last year, welcome back!

@vikesjnx: You're confusing the fact that in a Cover 2 Defense corners are valued for their ability to stop the run, not necessarily act as shutdown corners. Plenty of good shutdown corners (ie. Deion Sanders) were horrible tacklers in their prime. Winfield was always extremely good all around, especially at tackling. He definitely was NEVER a liability for the Vikes defense. Plus, poor play from our safeties can make pass defense in a Cover 2 look pretty bad.

There's a lot of YOUNG receivers and qb's that get schooled by OLDER DB's as well. If Winfield can jump a route on Harvin, he's good to go in my book.
