Lindsay has been a 1st Class Pro; ever since she helped the Gophers fill Willams Arena and they went to the Final 4. Winning the WNBA in 2011 was a well deserved achievement. Now a Gold Medal in London will round out the Trophy case. A true role model for Women and Men alike. That's our Lindsay Whalen! Cheers! Great article; Jim

I am a huge Sue Bird fan. She is absolutely one of ny favorite players. Having said this, anyone who has watched her this WNBA season objectively has to admit that her skills are finally beginning to deteriorate at the end of a great career. Unfortunately, Geno Auriemma, her college coach, is not looking at her objectively. There really is no way she should be starting ahead of Lindsay Whalen. Whalen is at the top of her career and brings so much more to the table than Bird does. She can penetrate or dish off with equal aplomb. Bird may have more leadership qualities, but her playmaking pales in comparison to Whalen. For the U.S. to achieve its full potential, Auriemma has to swap the roles of these two players.

Couldn't agree with you more, chatterton. Auriemma has former UConn players taking up 1/2 of his roster, including the Lynx' Maya Moore. They've got a great program and obviously a lot of talented players in the WNBA to choose from, but he does seem to be playing favorites. Also, I find it hard to comprehend that you have 3 key players from the WNBA champion Lynx on this team, and not one of them is starting.
