Pretty good analysis by Patrick. Looking back, I'm pretty sure Drew Pearson pushed off, too.

Ruesse. You cannot simply lump Everyone into the same category.... Gary Anderson's missed field goal was the bane of my football existence. Brett Favre's pass over the middle some how upped the ante. We're all not optimist, you seemed to forgot the 2000 playoffs, when we still had a dominant team, only to be humiliated by the Giants. I will not forget trading Randy Moss for some nickels and Napolean Harris. Or more recent events, losing our one in a lifetime, franchise player, and in the same game losing the 2nd overall pick in the draft. To assume that all 20 and 30 something's have some unrealistic optimistic view is incorrect. Many of us realize the futility that we may be subjected to for many...many years to come.

kennyrogers! Yes and how could I forget that!!

Gee, you missed a whole generation! What about the push off?! And what about an Oakland team, which much resembled that KC team of '70 (wasn't the best AFC team of the specific year, was more a "team" than a number of stars, was driven by a great leader/coach, and had a not great but plenty good QB), delivering every bit the disappointment that KC team did? (and I'm not even mentioning a dropped pass in the endzone for a winning TD to end the game, or 41-0 beatdown-of-all-time NFC Title Games). My generation just missed SBIV, but that Dallas loss and then the ATL loss made me all the cynic you are. By the time the NO loss came around, I (like you) expected it.

I may have spoken to soon. KR I thought you were referring to the 2003 playoffs. Also still fresth in my memory.

@sotakollin...lighten up you just proved Patrick's thing he didn't add Hank Stram and the Chiefs got their "karma" the next year when the Vikings dominated him and his team and wiped that silly grin off his face...oh and that's the last Super Bowl his beloved Chiefs have played they've been more inept than the "vikes"....

lindy_frank123Jul. 25, 12 8:53 PM

Pearson admitted he "pushed off" years later. He was using his skills as a rebounder. Worst call ever on that field. Worst. Read "The Other Side of The Glazier" by Bud, he talks about all those Super Bowls and it hasn't bothered him one bit nor has he lost sleep over it. Bud never changes, he's always the same. Why did it take so long for this man to be voted into the HOF?

The Gary Anderson miss was heartbreaking, but no one saw the Vikings coming that year. And Favre's great season and boneheaded collapse at the end gave fans the unique opportunity to cheer for the Vikings and validate their despise of a Packer great all at once. This year I'd prefer a huge flop season that develops the younger guys. A high draft pick next year and another trade back into the first round to land a late first rounder along with a full season of Simpson and a healthy Peterson and the Vikings might have the talent to make a move. Isn't happening this season. Not in this division. Develop players, get guys healthy, and finish 2-14.

Spot on, Pat. As a 54 year old lifetime Minnesotan, I became a doubting Thomas at an early age. The Vikes are like a train wreck to ugly as it may be, I still have to watch them.

sotakollinJul. 25, 1210:02 PM

@lindyfrank, afraid I did not. I was not alive during those years, I have been around for the more recent happenings of ineptitude. I have felt the heartbreak and misery that the more recent (16 years) vikings teams have done to me. Don't try and think that because I wasn't around the other years.. I'm 27... that I haven't been through tough times with this team. Sure you may have been through more, but give some of us young-lings a chance to be just as cynic as the rest of you. It's the only way is it not??
