The extension should help reassure potential players of the coach's intent to remain at the U.

Smith says, "We have issues with winning and losing." The reason might be that he is the worst coach in the Big Ten the last ten minutes of a game. Always outcoached and it is almost certsinly a loss. Clueless people at the U.

38-52 in the Big Ten. Only at the U would this get you a contract extension. Don't bother with this loser program

I don't know, Smith has proven that he is a winning coach. I just wonder that he doesn't have "great" players. I guess I am happy that he has an extension so that he can keep the program on an even keel. We will see.

I can't believe a guy who has looked at other schools during his entire tenure here can say that this extension will help with recruiting.

Does Golden Gopher Basketball have a shot at recruting Apple Valley's Tyus Jones?? He would be the biggest signee ever for Gopher Basketball.

Who wrote that headline . . . "Tubby's deal will be a boost to recruiting" ??? How stupid do you think we are? He hasn't recruited an "A" list player in 5 years of being here. What makes you think he will start now? The best recruits he has brought in have left the program early or before graduating or been suspended for legal problems. The best recruiter he wanted to bring in (i.e., Jimmy Williams) was not allowed by the University yet they were ordered to pay him over a million $$$ to settle a contract dispute without Williams ever recruiting a single player. Smith's #1 assistant is his son Saul. Reportedly the #1 recruit in the state is likely to sign with Michigan State or Duke and does not have Minnesota among his top 5. Minnesota is not on the radar of ANY of the top 20 prospects in the nation and signing Tubby to an extension will do NOTHING to improve that situation. If anything it will HURT it.

The chump hasn't recruited anyone, yet - except some guys that he wouldn't support, threw under the bus and they left the program. Can you say "Royce", Orlando? Mbakwe had no where else to go so he ended up at the U - and despite the local clamor, he's an average college player who, if drafted, doesn't fit any position in the NBA. So, anyway - he's proven that he can't recruit - what advantage does the extension give him (other than the life of Riley?)
