What's with the "us" comments always from locals who reference anyone from Minnesota involved in something outside of the borders. This state doesn't border communist china or chaotic Egypt. I've lived and traveled to many diff states never heard anyone reference the people from their state with "us" as much you people do. The impression of Minn as being a flyover isolated place by the rest of the country where nobody wants to live grows with that type of thought process. Why? Why do you view yourselves as outsiders to the rest of the country.......a us against them mentality. Weird......is it a insecurity thing? You are widening the gap by putting up a wall to outsiders as much as you do. Just a unique way of thinking, never experienced it anywhere like "here". And I lived here for 15 years and still don't understand it.

parksoy, as someone who grew up here and lived most of my adult life here, but traveled around and lived in other places, I do see your point and have wonered that myself, this real provincialism, like having to feel important by identifying people with Minnesota ties (however tenuous) who are in the big show. I am surprised they didnt hightlight Frank Violas daughter in diving. That said, that is how Minnesota is, for better or worse. And I do really think there is a better involved. It springs from a real sense of community, you can call it corny, but there is a real connection amongst people here you dont find in most other major metropolitan areas. We can think of that as corny or provincial, or we can think of it as a good part of being a Minnesotan. I see both sides of it.
