Key paragraph......as in, this happens....and has many times before.
"Even Greenland's coldest and highest place, Summit station, showed melting. Ice core records show that last happened in 1889 and occurs about once every 150 years.".
So, due to high solar activity this happens? The sun is at a peak....a 150 year peak of solar storm activity....hmmmm. Gee....I wonder.
There are still a lot of surprises out there.
The way people continue to bury their heads in the sand dumbfounds me. "Hey, my bedroom is on fire. Oh well, it happens. Wait, my kitchen is on fire too! Hmm, these things come and go in cycles, nothing to worry about. My living room on fire? Gee, must be peak solar activity." Maybe, just maybe, we should stop gaping in amazement at all these coincident cycles and start doing something about it.
There is not even a story here. This happens every 150 years and the ice is already starting to freeze again. Read the article, it was all in there.
Remember the hockey stick graph?
Better get used to this, along with droughts, hotter summers, drenching floods, and fires. We made our bed, now we have have to deal with the consequences.
why don't we admit it? the earth is getting warmer. everybody move to alaska!
I really don't want to move to Alaska, thank you very much. But we are going to see more and more dramatic swings in our climate as we get warmer. I personally think we are screwed, having already gone past the tipping point, but I hope I'm wrong.
I am sure past civilizations which went through the ice age and other eras didn't spend as much time thinking that they were the cause of the normal systems occurring. We have become so self absorbed in many ways that we think WE are the cause and WE can thwart what happens naturally. We are just guests here folks and we don't get to read the last chapter first...enjoy the experiences you are having and live in the present.
One of Hulbert's top stock market timers maintains there is a 76.6 year cycle at work in the markets. It connects market peaks in 1853,1929 and 2006(2007). Coincidence? maybe but the coincidence also connects depressions in the 30's to the current economic depression and weather extremes in the 30's to weather extremes today. Weather records set in the 30's are still holding today. Dust bowl anyone? In my view we are simply repeating the weather extremes of the 1930's, and if we didn't have all the govt safety nets/money printing, we would all be lined up at the soup kitchens again too.
