If 'twelve-out-of-twelve' recruiting coach Jerry Kill (and staff) doesn't call some of these players -- then we REALLY have a loser in Dinkytown. Of course, I doubt he was runner-up (as Mason says) for any of the players that signed up for PSU. When you get a second-tier coach, even situations like this cannot make any difference. Watch MI, MSU, OSU, NB, WI, and even IA take full advantage of this while our 'aw-shucks' guy is left trying to coach-up a bunch of two and three-star guys. When you settle for something less (the only coach who would talk to Maturi and Mona) -- this is what you get. So I think the article is right -- this is the ONLY benefit for U of M football.

What "lesson"? It's called morality!

I believe the real lesson in this whole Penn State business is that you need a strong university president and a strong board of regents or whatever they are called at the various universities. If the football coach is running the university (or your basketball coach, or any other coach) bad things will happen and they will spiral out of control eventually.

dewarf - Good thing you aren't the coach, we'd instantly have a violation of our own to deal with. You did read the part where other teams are NOT allowed to contact Penn State players, right? Coach Kill will prove you wrong on everything else you said, as well...

For those of you so anxious to bring in some of those Penn State players, I'd give it a little more thought. First, I doubt that there are any on their roster that was "given the time of day" from anyone on this coaching staff. Second, if they can play--they will stay. Last, I'd have more respect, personally, for those guys who say, "Yeah, I heard the talk about that creep, but I came to Penn State anyway, because of Joe Paterno--I made my own bed, now I have to lie in it."

Along with a newly imposed overall roster limit of 65 scholarships players, instead of the 85 that teams such as the Gophers operate with, Penn State "won't be able to recruit to its usual standards, and the roster will get thinner every year," Mason predicted. ---- Why would this be a problem? Mason should see this as simple to solve! Just recruit the athletes at the academic scholarship standards. Simple as that. These kids are attending a higher learning institution, after all. Mason is part of the money and greed NCAA football machine and therefore untrustable. What are the chances he NEVER covered up some sort of wrongdoing?

One follow-up question I have for the sports staff is whether the bowl money ban is new for the Big Ten. Ohio State is in a post season ban right now, I assume others have been in the past. Did they forfeit their share of bowl revenues?
