Penn State's program will pay a severe price, but nothing compared to real victims.

When you coverup child rape and do nothing, bad things happen to you. It is hard to imagine 4 high level PSU officials doing nothing on such outrageous acts by one of their own. But when a football program generates nearly $100 million in annual revenue to a university, you have to ask yourself - has it gotten out of hand? And who put together these TV contracts and bowl games that produce these enormous amounts of revenue? The same organization that handed down the sanctions to Penn State today - the NCAA.

Crippling? USC is currently in the midst losing 30 scholarships over a three-year period, 10 annually, from 2011 to '13--similar to Penn State minus one year and 10 scholarships. USC also had a two year bowl ban. Devastating to the program? I don't think so. USC is currently favored to win the National Championship.

In the final analysis of everything that has happened at PSU many POV come to light. The Paterno family still seems to believe that people are only angry at Sandusky's actions, and that they are not upset at what their father did in covering up Sandusky's actions. Deslusion at its highest degree. PSU fans are upset at the wins taken away, and that a statue glorifying a key figure in the cover up of child molestation was taken down, and were crying that the football team was losing scholarships... they were not upset that their institution is now looked upon as a school who didn't care that football was more important than academics... short sighted to say the least. And finally, the NCAA penalties, when being described on NPR last night, Dr. Emmert said that in the final analysis the death penalty would hurt too many innocent people at PSU... in other words they just gave Paterno and everyone at PSU what they wanted in the first place... they saved the football team.

Minnesota doesn't place enough emphasis on football to be competitive but if Penn State is an example of what it takes, selling your soul, I'll take the Gophers program every time!

What happened at Penn State is something that society should never tolerate. If there is a next time, which I hope there never is, the institution should be seriously considered for expulsion from the NCAA. Also, consideration can be given to amending the Clery Act to require that future egregious cases similar to this one should require the Department of Education to eliminate access to federal financial aid or to explain to Congress why it did not do so.

Agree with your coments. Penn State should be removed from the Big Ten and they should end football there!
