Start of camp is next step in rebuilding

Vikings GM Rick Spielman has put together a gifted but young team that he readily acknowledges will require time to figure everything out.

When Spielman is quoted as 'stinking' the week before training camp, it's unclear whether he's referring to his golf game or his full time job. Mr. Spielman, with all due respect, has not performed his job adequately, and I'm being charitable. Frazier as well has been an acute disappointment, and again, this is a charitable evaluation. If this year does not produce a winning season, and I don't believe it will, both Spielman and Frazier should be dismissed, the roster turned over, and an earnest search for a starting QB begun.

I love the purple and I want to be an optimist, but unless some serious improvement comes from the secondary, all the little steps taken won't mean much with 3 QBs in the division that can sling it.

Lost in all the optimism is the fact that Frazier is still the head coach.

The biggest setback in the rebuilding process was the teams stupidity in winning the Washington game last year. Winning that extra game not only cost us Adrian Peterson getting seriously hurt. But look at what the Rams got 3 number one draft picks and a 2nd. The Vikings seem to always be so stupid. You can't tell me any other team would have been as stupid as the Vikings were and tried to win their game if it as a meaningless game like the last 3 games were. Frazier should have been fired after winning that game. Peterson got hurt and so did Gerhart. Winning that game was so stupid.

Spielman has proven time and time again that he has absolutely NO business being in the front office (let alone a general manager) of any NFL team!!! He has been on the losing end of the Dolphins, Lions and now the Purple which speaks volumes as to his lack of qualifications. The Purple has finished dead last in the NFC North Division two consecutive (soon to be three) years now and they have not beaten a NFC North Division foe for over a year and a half (soon to be two and a half years), It's time to cut our losses and get rid of this bum bfore the Purple's ten year rebuilding program turns into fifteen years!!!

The fact that Spielman was even hired, let alone promoted, by the Wilf's tells you where this franchise is headed and that is nowhere / last place again!!! How in the world do you keep a proven loser like Spielman in the front office (let alone promote the loser) after a 6-10 last place Divisional finish in 2010 followed up by a 3-13 season and another dead last place Divisional finish in 2011. If this clown is not gone after this year's season my four season tickets and future PSLs will go the way of the Hennepin County garbage burner!!!

I was glad when the Vikes finally hired a GM. I was not so happy when it was Spielman but the Wilf's were not going to bring in a GM until the stadium issue was resolved. The stadium issue also probably saved Frazier's job. For Spielman and Frazier's sake I hope there is marked improvement this season,or they will both be gone. Just as the delay in resolving the stadium issue saved their jobs this year, the fact that a new stadium is being built means ownership is expecting the be legitimate contenders by the time the new stadium is complete.

@vikesforlife - Don't hold your breath on the new stadium nonsense, the brain trust out at Winter Park tried selling all the fans the SAME line of BS when the MetroDome was being built!!!

I agree with the other bloggers...If the vikes do not improve this year to at least 6-10 (if they can't do it with their weak schedule this coming year),clean house and start over...

I'm clearly in the minority, and that's fine, but I don't have a problem with Spielman. I think we have to give him a little more time. Yes, he hasn't been that successful in his previous stops, but a lot of guys improve with experience. Bret Bielema at Wisconsin is a good example (granted he's a coach). Started out shaky, didn't look great, made mistakes. But UW stuck with him and now they are a legitimate NCAA title contender. People, including coaches, GMs, and players make mistakes as they learn. This is a young team, but I think we have a lot of talent. PLAY JORDAN TODMAN. Go Vikes!!!
