It's time to have a serious conversation regarding the availability of assault weapons.

Why are people shocked about shootings like this? We have a culture that glorifies guns and violence-- and with the easy availability of guns we should not surprised when these tragedies occur.

And now all of the pro-gun people will claim if only someone in the theater had been armed, things would have been different. In their John Wayne fantasy world, they imagine themselves whipping out their concealed weapon the second the shooting starts, and returning fire in a dark, smokey environment filled with screaming people running for the exits. Of course, they would already know that the shooter was wearing full body armor, so they carefully choose one of the small areas of the shooter's body that isn't protected to make a miracle shot.

Brace yourselves for the flood of kneejerk commenters on both sides - the lefties who think more gun control laws are the answer, and the cowboys who think more concealed carry permits so that law-abiding citizens could have stopped the guy are the answer. Both sides are delusional.

And what pray tell is the purpose of an assault weapon other than to assault?

So where is the NRA in all of this? It amazes me how silent this terrorist group is when some guy uses his second amendment right to keep and bare arms and conceal and carry and to stand his ground to murder his neighbors in cold blood and for the thrill of the kill. Where is their "personal responsibility" in all of this evil? And why does the NRA have all that political power? The shooter is personally responsible, but the NRA gave him the tools to do it.

I don't think it's coincidental that this nut began planning and assembling his arsenal right during the time that the world media was giving huge nonstop coverage to the Norwegian mass murdering nut during his trial. The media need to report these stories, but they also need to avoid stoking the grandiose fantasies of potential copycats.

It's time to ban all handguns and assault rifles! No self-respecting hunter needs anything more than a shotgun or a single-shot rifle. Clearly, handguns and assault rifles are meant to kill people, and, in the hands of some lunatic, psycho or man with a grudge/hatred, that's exactly what results.

@DanielDay@ I am pro gun but I dont currently own one. However, do you really think this guy was a legal gun owner? Your statement sounds ridiculous.
