A startling spike in the number of whooping cough cases, in Minnesota and across the nation, has prompted state officials to urge that all Minnesotans consider getting booster shots for the disease.

I guess big pharma spent all the bird flu and swine flu vaccine money. Better start the next unwarranted fear campaign and put more poison in people's bodies.

In early 2010, a spike in cases appeared at Kaiser Permanente in San Rafael, and it was soon determined to be an outbreak of whooping cough -- the largest seen in California in more than 50 years. Witt had expected to see the illnesses center around unvaccinated kids, knowing they are more vulnerable to the disease. "We started dissecting the data. What was very surprising was the majority of cases were in fully vaccinated children. That's what started catching our attention," said Witt. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/04/03/us-whoopingcough-idUSBRE8320TM20120403

Give vaccine at 2 months of age? Are they nuts? What do you think the mothers immune system is for! A baby doesn't even have a developed immune system at that age!

It's the illegals that are bringing this into the US. Time to shut down all the boarders for few years, get our country stable, then take care of the world again.

@ drillforoil. It is not the illegals that are causing this. Get over that. This is about a very ineffective vaccine and the medical establishment trying to sell us on it. Most of the cases are from children that are vaccinated.

It's obviously not the 'illegals', but I also don't think that the government is trying to sell us an ineffective vaccine. What would they have to gain from that? Sometimes this is just how science works. Look for an updated pertussis vaccine in the coming years. In the meantime, get your booster.

Oops, I should have said medical establishment instead of government, but still, I don't see the motive in either case.

My sister got it in 1940 and nearly died. I was vaccinated in 1946 before starting school, but got a mild case in Fall, 1949, in the fourth grade. Mild, but I can still remember those spasms of coughing until I gasped for breath. Just before I retired (2005), I went to the doctor with a bad cough. As soon as he said pertussis, I remembered those same paroxysms of coughing and gasping for breath. It was the only reason I believed him. I got over that episode in a few days, but because I had some degree of immunity to it. If you don't want your kids really, really, really sick, then get them vaccinated. If you don't, and they do get sick, you have only yourself to blame for whatever happens.
