he won't be traded before deadline, but he'll still have value on the waiver wire providing he's not seriously injured.

Duensing is not a starter. Stats show it's not even close. I'd rather see a Class A kid called up rather than seeing Duensing in the rotation.

Bummer for Capps and his career to have this happen at a time when he would otherwise easily be traded to a team in the playoff picture. Bummer for the Twins to have this interfere with their ability to secure a decent prospect for a healthy Capps.

Liriano seeking 3 year deal? Great news!

With Doumit in the picture, the Ramos/Capps trade doesn't hurt as much. Butera is/was/will never be the backup catcher solution. While Ramos hasn't exactly tore up the NL (in between kidnapping incidents), his ceiling is high. Capps on the other hand....has a glass ceiling and always has. With two pitches in his arsenal (including the 93 mph fastball he throws with no movement, 94% of the time), he's basically throwing batting practice. If we don't have a 3-4 run lead when he enters the game, I cringe at the strong possibility of us actually losing. He's a bum. Extremely hittable. Not the strikeout pitcher Smith thought he was. I was honestly hoping we could superglue his arm on or something to get him healthy enough to pawn off on someone else. Now we're probably stuck with him or will get little in return. There should be no way we pay him to embarrass us a third consecutive year.

This may in a strange way actually help us to get more value for Capps. He isn't an elite pitcher and wouldn't be at the top of anyone's wish list at the trade deadline. The Twins may be able to sneak him through waivers now. There will be questions about his health, due to going back on the DL so quickly, which may scare off waiver claims. The upcoming trade deadline will also be consuming front office time, so they likely won't want to spend too long figuring out if they are confident in Capps' health and want to place a claim. Consequently he likely could make it through. That would make him near the top of the list of pitchers that cleared waivers and could be traded in August. So in a way this injury could help us to get more for him in August than we could have gotten in July.

Like the Twins would choose a decent player in return for Capps anyway.
