Lunacy has always been a part of the team's MO, but the Batum saga might be different.

..lunacy or madness, Jim? I vote for lunacy when it comes to Batum. The offer would be gracious for a proven SF, but be realistic, how many of us were even aware of Batum? Maybe this once Khan has found a real player, but at what cost? It could be a few #1s and williams to portland before its over. Madness was not signing Love to the Max and also giving him and Rubio unrestricted free agency in a few yrs. Compared to the Squandered #1s, and revolving door on Khans "long and athletic" projects, those contracts will spell the majority of Khans Legacy. His tenure so far reminds me of a fantasy player who some how woke up and found himself in a real GM job in the NBA.

This article is about a week behind. The Wolves lost Batum the minute they signed him to an offer sheet on Sunday, and they knew it. That's why they tried so hard to do a sign and trade last week. The Blazers would be fools not to match before the deadline tomorrow. If they weren't going to keep him, they would have gotten some assets in a trade instead of losing him for nothing.

Was Wes Johnson deliberately left off the roster list in this article?

If you don't know who Batum is, you must not watch much basketball. Like in the 3 games the Blazers played the Wolves and Batum averaged 21 ppg.

Batum is pretty well known in basketball circles. Good player. Worth that much? Nah. But the Wolves have to overpay to get free agents. I think Kahn did a good job but he "played the game" with the Blazers for about 2 days too long. Sounds like the salary cap issue was a mistake that many could have made as the rules werent spelled out. He HAD cleared the money when the offer was made....but had not cleared teh money when Batum signed the contract. Pickyness of the new CBA. YEs..he should have known that but I think alot of GM's may have missed that one.

The Wolves have no cap space left if Portland does not match to sign any of the players Souhan mentioned in this article. They are at max right now. They will have 1, $2 mil excpetion and that's it.

The Wolves still should have signed Love to the maximum contract. I hope that during this year, they redo his contract and sign him for life. The Wolves need Love. With Rubio around him, the Wolves now need more "good" players to get going. Hope things work out for them.
