There aren’t many things more isolating to older Americans than hearing loss. Hearing loss often goes undiscussed and, left untreated, can lead to depression and social isolation. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is running a "Speak Up About Hearing Loss" campaign urging families to break through the silence and openly discuss hearing loss. People can find information and help at www.asha.org/hearing/. Shelly Chabon, PhD, CCC-SLP and American Speech-Language-Hearing Association ASHA) Fellow & 2012 President

As a hearing health care professional at Toronto's Hearing Aid Central, I think these types of incidents are highly preventable through the use of proper hearing protection such as simple ear plugs. Articles like these are great for informing other people to be careful and to protect your hearing whenever there is a possibility of life long damage. www.hearingaidcentral.ca www.facebook.com/hearingaidcentral www.twitter.com/hearingtoronto

As my father started losing his hearing his character changed along with it. He was more pulled back. And less enthusiastic about things. He was depressed. But since 2 years ago, when he got his hearing aid. He has improved alot and seemed to be doing better. He is very happy thats for certain. The company where my father got his hearing aid was really helpful and made sure it fit him well. They were great. check http://mainlandhearing.com for their help and options.
