I would guess she thought "I should be otter here!"

I've never heard an odder otter story. Heal well, Leah.

If there is a possibility that this otter has rabies and is attacking people, has the DNR or anyone else tried to go and capture it so it doesn't hurt anyone else?

A human is a visitor to the otters home, the lake. Would you like strangers barging into your home??? Didn't think so....otter wins.

I hope she heals well and get's back to what she obviously does well. I don't think rabid animals live that long. Hopefully the normally cute otter didn't infect other water life.

These otters and their kind are out of control. One of these animals once swam up my ice fishing hole and made me spill my beer! Luckily he went back down and I didn't have to fight him.

How about a picture of an otter to accompany the story?

Otters are one of those animals that we think of as "cute" but are truly wild and alarmingly fast. In retrospect, Leah made a great decision to wear that wetsuit. Hope she has a good race.

All the best in her recovery. What a freakish accident. Island "lake" is actually a reservoir on the St. Louis River system controlled by damns owned by Minnesota Power.
