Bloomington explores giving bridge to the feds

The Old Cedar Avenue Bridge would go to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service under a deal that might also include about 1,000 acres of land.

Like many past Bloomingtonites, I have a lot of memories attached to this bridge. I remember fondly the thrill of just driving over it. It seemed rickety even when I was a teen, but it was a fun crossing. It was one of three bridges as I recall. One was so narrow, a person seemed to just squeeze across. I would love to see the feds take this one on. If they can spend a billion for a jet fighter, why not restore a real historical landmark? It would cost a whole lot less.

Great idea. Can we give the old Stillwater bridge to the Feds, too? After the $700M St Croix bridge is built, the old bridge should be given to the Feds - or given to Stillwater itself. MN taxpayers should not be forced to operate and maintain that old rusty bridge any longer.
