Keep Capps away from the Closer role permanantly. He's the set up guy now. Or trade him.

I always surprised by people who savage Capps. He was the only guy who stood up after last season and accepted his responsibility for a poor performance. He actually went on record with the writers and said he stunk, and wanted to do better. And the only reason we know he had injury issues is the writers pointed it out. He never mentioned it, and never used it as an excuse. And in the drug testing era, guys are not going to go out and mow down three guys and finish off a game. Maybe lay off the only guy who stood up and held himself accountable after last season. The only one.

He wasn't the only one. He also didn't cut 20 pounds like Morneau did. Or put in an accelerated offseason workout regimen like Mauer did. Nope, he said all the right things, but still showed up the same old Fat Capps.

Downside: While i agree with you that Capps is a likable stand up guy who I believe does give his best when he is out there, he hasn't got a strikeout pitch. Your closer can't be saved by his fielders catching screaming line drives in every close game. Ne is only effective pitching a very few pitches per appearance. If someone will give prospects for Capps, take the offer.

Just go the way we've been going and slot Capps in when necessary. His days as our go-to guy exclusive closer should be over.
