Twins may be in mood to deal

The need to upgrade talent, coupled with new rules that should increase activity, could make GM Terry Ryan a busy man.

San Francisco is so loaded with pitching it can give up a guy like Wheeler. Now that's a GM. Take notes Ryan. That's how it's done. Liriano will be gone and you'll see him in New York. Span off to Washington. Capps probably Atlanta. And the Twins will get prospects from three good systems.

Can we trade Gardenhire? That could help us.

I have never been in favor of not trading a player and keeping him so you get the draft pick.I am glad they changed the rules.RYAN has his work cut out for him i wouldnt trade WILLINGHAM unless i got a deal I couldnt turn down.LIRANO,SPAN,CAPPS,PAVANO have got to go.I would trade VALENCIA for a player to be named later I dont think he will play again for the twins.

The problem the Twins have with a guy like Liriano is that all other ML teams KNOW that MN won't offer Liriano a new contract after this season, so they will simply low-ball Terry Ryan at the trade deadline. Don't expect much return for Liriano and only slightly more for a guy like Span. Capps should get us a bucket of balls in return and Ryan should be fired if he trades Willingham with the team-friendly contract that he has for 2013 and 2014.

Don't trade Willingham. We need more "Old School" players like him, not less. He would have fit in nicely with the '87 & '91 teams.

Don't mention trading Mauer. We are stuck with a slap-hitting right fielder for the next 6 years.

I agree, you hold onto Willingham. They won't get crap for Liriano so I say hold on to him. With our luck he'll go elsewhere and become the ace he never was here. We need pitching but don't see how trading Liriano helps that, no matter how inconsistent he's been. We have too much invested in him to swap for a low level prospect or two..ala the JJ Hardy deal. Span and Capps would be my choice to go. If we trade any pitchers we better receive one who has the capability to help us next year, not four years from now.

belasco: And remember, the fans demanded the team sign him long term--so they did. Sit back and enjoy the show. The Twins won't get much back for the others, but I guess something is better than nothing. Liriano has been below average for a few years now-that won't bring much, unless someone thinks they can get lightning in a bottle. Span hitting .217 in the last 30 games...that's not good enough. The fans here believe Capps isn't very good, and as we found out in the Delmon trade, when someone isn't good, you don't get much, so don't expect much for Capps. Even Morneau won't bring much bounty, although I do think he should be moved. Forget about finding guys who help the major league team--it's going no where now. Find guys who can re-build the farm system and lead to a better future.

Back to back 4-3 losses due to poor management. I guess dumping Gardy is out of the question. Until they do it will be very difficult for me to get excited about this team.

DUMB, DUMB, DUMB. THE ONLY PLAYERS TO TRADE THAT ALLOW ROOM TO SIGN EXPENSIVE FREE AGENTS ARE MAUER AND MORNEAU. THE OTHER GUYS DON'T GET PAID MUCH SO DEFINITELY DON'T TRADE THEM. SIGN LIRIANO OR YOU WILL BE TRYING TO SIGN A FREE AGENT NOT AS GOOD AS LIRIANO FOR MORE MONEY. THE TWINS STARTERS ARE RIGHT NOW BETTER THAN A LOT OF TEAMS WITH DIAMOND, LIRIANO, DEVRIES, DUENSING AND A FIFTH GUY THAT COULD BE BAKER OR A HIGH BUCK FREE AGENT NEXT YEAR. THE RELIEF STAFF IS OK. JUST PLAY CASILLA INSTEAD OF DOZIER AND TEAM HIM WITH CARROL UP THE MIDDLE AND END THIS EXTENDED SPRING TRAINING AND THE TWINS WILL HAVE THE BEST SECOND HALF SEASON RECORD IN THE CENTRAL AND WILL BE COMPETITIVE NEXT YEAR. STUPID MOVES, JUST TO LOWER THE PAYROLL FOR THE OWNER ARE BAD MOVES FOR THE TEAM AND FANS. THIS COACHING STAFF MIXED WITH PROSPECTS WILL PLACE THE TWINS OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS FOR YEARS TO COME IF THEY GO THAT ROUTE. THE TWINS ATTENDANCE IS GREAT SO THE OWNERS CAN SPEND THE MONEY TO ADD A PITCHER WITHOUT A TRADE. TRADING THOME LAST YEAR TO SAVE $625,000 THIS YEAR AND PLAYING EVERY CASTOFF TO REPLACE REVERE IN RF EARLIER THIS YEAR AND PLAYING DOZIER INSTEAD OF CASILLA REALLY HURT THE TWINS THIS YEAR. THEY COULD BE FIVE GAMES OUT RIGHT NOW. BAD MANAGEMENT DECISIONS AND YOU PEOPLE WANT THESE SAME MANAGERS TO MAKE DEALS. GOOD NIGHT.
