"Spreading" AIS is wrong--I agree!!. "Transporting" (driving down the road with water and or weeds etc. on the boat) does NOTHING to hurt the lakes and rivers. The intent and spirit of the law is to not "spread" AIS and the courts will rule that way--against the word "transport". Bet on it...as one can't be guilty of a crime before he or she commits it. The crime is "spreading" AIS. Stopping boats in tow assumes guilt and intent to "spread" AIS. The law will not stand until those two words are changed.

Sooo youre going to pull me over WITHOUT "just cause"? Is that right? For potential weeds on my boat. Hmmmmm. Think I may have to keep driving if I didnt commit any known violations. I cant believe this somehow got through.

Now, if they could just get the hundreds of thousands of migratory waterfowl to land at these decontamination sites for a cleaning, they would be able to clean up the real spreaders? Maybe piles of corn?

Don't expect the courts to help in this matter. One court has already given the government constitutional authority to tax inactivity. Courts are no longer concerned with protecting liberty but are sadly just an instrument of the governmental authority.

Jim Konrad, DNR enforcement chief said, "There's a level of intrusion in almost every part of our life. This will help us protect our waters.'' Even if there are intrusions in our lives, it does not make it right to add more. Giving up the right to privacy is too great of a cost. Especially for stopping someone who might not be abiding by the law. There is no reason this law is needed. The DNR checking boats at the landings should be sufficient.

I was wondering what the DNR was doing to stop the spread of invasive species by float planes? I have heard there was already a case of this in Minnesota. Maybe they will randomly start forcing float planes down for inspection.

I think we all know that the only solution is severe penalties: 1st offense $1,000, 2nd $2,000, 3rd $3,000 and confiscation of boat, motor and trailer.
