I love how these billionaire owners continue to need more and more restrictions to save them from themselves and their financially unsound business decisions. Must be rough. Anybody else see a greedy connection between sports owners and Wall Street -- successful businessmen who keep making bad decisions in the name of short-term greed.

"We're projecting an attendance drop next season." Leipold heard this and opened his checkbook wide. The Pohlads heard it and cut payroll 20 million. I know which team gets my 2012 ticket money.

"Sometimes you have to spend money to make money" That's business 101, and that theory has been around longer than professional sports. I applaud his investment. Local St Paul businesses will also see financial benefits from this investment. Shrewd move, but I like the business deal.

These signings were more about where this team will be 5-6 years from now, not 5-6 months from now. The immediate impact of ticket & jersey sales is tiny compared to what the team now has the potential to make in post-season revenue, renewed corporate sponsorship, league-wide interest like a Winter Classic, etc.

I agree (intoblivion, I know where a good chunk of my household entertainment budget is going also. It's no different than any other company making a capital investment to bolster a capability. In the short term this will (an already has) bolster sales (tickets, gear, etc...) but long term does so many things to make the Wild future bright. There are risks, such as the assumptions around performance and production - but I think they are solid, calculated risks. Who wouldn't expect Parise and Suter to produce?? That's why so many teams pursued them!!! If the young prospects that they just inked to new contracts (even if it's only two of them) pan out to be impact players this year, this team will do more than just make the playoffs, they could make a serious run in the West. What will that do for this team's ability to attract key free agents in future years as the roster evolves?? How about at this year's trade deadline?? It's going to be a fun ride in 2012 - 13. There is a "feeling" that has started to infiltrate this town in only five short days. The MN sports scene couldn't be more ready for this!!!!! Here we go!!!!! Is it October yet?? I'll bet there are 3 - 4k spectators at prospect camp this week.
